Trapani - 28 October 2021

It was blissfully quiet and still in this very sheltered and protected corner of Trapani harbour overnight. The night temperatures are dropping to about 15C now, so there is a lot of condensation on the boat in the morning, which mainly means that we can’t breakfast on deck. It was a shame this morning after I watched the orange sunrise behind the palm trees from my bunk.

We walked all around the old city of Trapani, in the morning. It has style. It is fabulous. There are a lot of signs of it being out of season now, but there are still a few tourists about and there was quite a queue boarding the fast cat ferry to the Egadi Islands. We found out about buses, locally in the city and to Palermo airport, from the tourist information office.

The post office and telephone exchange are impressive

After lunch, as there was no wind or rain, we took the opportunity to take the sails off. It was so much easier to do this while we have Chris with us. We had them bagged up beautifully and, very promptly, a man from the boatyard came, with a supermarket trolley to collect them. I would never have thought that our enormous main sail would fit in the trolley, but it did! Despite the young man telling us he wasn’t very strong, he and Chris managed to lift it up into said trolley. Job done.

The sails had just disappeared, and Steve had returned from giving the administrator in the office our jobs list, when three guys arrived to go through the list on the boat. The head maintenance man was very impressive in his knowledge and we feel very confident that the boat is in good hands, to be looked after, maintained and repaired during the winter. This is the best we have experienced since being in Germany. Obviously, mostly, it was just talking through everything today, but you know when people are good at their job and air conditioning is already working again.

We treated ourselves to dinner out in a local restaurant and enjoyed some delicious Sicilian food, followed by Gelato. A perfect end to a lovely and productive day.
